MOVING for work or study...
Newcomers - Settling In
In addition to travelers, SigaMiga offers services to newcomers in Barcelona to help them get situated in the city. If you’ve just moved here, or you are coming to study for an extended period of time, don’t worry. Just follow me!
I know what you want to see. My journey of learning and understanding the city has helped me to be aware of the experiences and feelings others may have when they first arrive. From this, I am keen to the kinds of places that visitors may be interested in seeing.
I can also explain or point out interesting facts, customs, or stories that may seem normal to the locals, but are bizarre or noteworthy to those who haven’t grown up in Catalunya/Spain. The Catalan Christmas has a big twist that most people don’t expect.
I can help you understand where you are and how to get around. Back home I became a master at navigating around on 5+ hour drives and only referencing the directions once or twice on that journey, but I didn’t grow up in a city. I have found that navigating oneself on foot is somehow a different experience entirely that involves a bit of mental rewiring. I have a few tips to help people orientate and navigate through Barcelona. This can be for if you plan on doing things on your own during your stay, if you plan to later move here, or to simply have a better understanding of the city.
Things to Consider... (click the buttons!)
So are you a tour guide? No. I am not a certified tour guide and will not claim to be. I am like a local friend, because the services that I provide are more customized to your individual trip and experience. I focus on making sure you get to see ALL of the places you want to see and understand what you are looking at in the process, and in between I may be able to provide some additional facts and historical tidbits. I will take you beyond where one individual tour will take you.
Can’t I just do this on my own then?
You can. It’s the same with taking a tour or booking from another source; the majority of information can be found in some way through guide books or the internet. The key is the service and convenience that are provided. I will save you time and stress, and provide a richer experience of seeing the city through the eyes of someone who loves it. I don’t just provide a service; I actually care about your trip. I will make it a personal goal to ensure that you have seen the things that you wanted to see and in a way that makes you feel comfortable and satisfied.
Every trip is different.
It’s true. Every person or group that I meet comes from different places with distinct backgrounds and interests. I don’t know what they want initially, and sometimes neither do they, so I work to find that with them. There’s no right way to do things. There are so many things to see in the city and everyone has their own interests. Some prefer to see the museums while others find it a waste of time. Some people prefer to walk everywhere while others prefer to cab it. Each form of moving around has its own benefits, and each individual has their reasoning for wanting to see the city in that way. The time that I spend with each individual that I accompany helps me to learn what kind of things people expect when they travel, and when they come to Barcelona, as well as what pleases them. My recommendations are based on what I like and also shaped by what others have experienced.
Limitations help shape the trip. Wheelchairs, allergies, early bed times, etc. It is important for me to know the various factors that limit the ability to participate in or enjoy certain activities. This includes necessary health, medical, and mobile limitations, as well as personal preferences (or objectives). The amount of time that you are in the city will also influence heavily what things you see and what priority order to put them in.
Our experience is an atelier. Part of what keeps me invigorated with taking people around is the things that I learn from them about how they take in the city. We each have our own concept/experience about a particular place, but that concept changes as we learn and see new things. Barcelona has so much to offer and I am constantly going to new places and finding new paths as I share my journey here with others. While they get to see the city through my eyes, it delights me to be able to see it through theirs.
